India's first step on moon

India made history on August 23, 2023, when its Chandrayaan-3 lander successfully touched down near the south pole of the Moon. This was the first time India had landed a spacecraft on the Moon, and it also made India the fourth country in the world to achieve this feat, after the United States, Russia, and China.

The Chandrayaan-3 mission was launched on August 22, 2023, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, India. The lander was carrying a rover called Pragyan, which was designed to explore the lunar surface.

The lander's touchdown was broadcast live on Indian television, and it was greeted with cheers and applause by scientists and engineers at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) headquarters in Bengaluru.

"This is a historic moment for India," said ISRO chairman S. Somanath. "It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our scientists and engineers."

The Chandrayaan-3 mission is expected to collect data on the lunar south pole, which is a region that has not been extensively explored by previous missions. The data collected by the mission could help scientists to better understand the history and formation of the Moon.

The mission is also expected to help India to develop its own space capabilities. The ISRO has ambitious plans to send astronauts to the Moon by 2030, and the Chandrayaan-3 mission is a major step towards achieving this goal.

The successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 is a major achievement for India, and it is a source of pride for the country's citizens. It is also a reminder of the growing importance of India in the global space race.
