G-20 meeting
G-20 Meeting
The Group of Twenty (G20) is an intergovernmental forum comprising 19 sovereign countries and the European Union (EU). It works to address major issues related to the global economy, such as international financial stability, climate change mitigation, and sustainable development.
The G20 members represent around 85% of the global GDP, over 75% of global trade, and about two-thirds of the world population. This gives the G20 a unique convening power and influence to address global challenges.
The G20 was established in 1999 as a forum for Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors to discuss international economic and financial issues. In the wake of the global financial and economic crisis of 2007, the G20 was elevated to the level of Heads of State/Government and was named the "premier forum for international economic cooperation."
The G20 meets annually at the Leaders' Summit, which is hosted by one of the member countries on a rotating basis. The G20 also has a number of working groups and engagement groups that meet throughout the year to develop policy recommendations and coordinate implementation.
The G20 agenda has expanded over time to include a wide range of issues, including:
- International financial stability
- Climate change mitigation and adaptation
- Sustainable development
- Health
- Agriculture
- Energy
- Environment
- Anti-corruption
The G20 has played a significant role in shaping global economic and financial policies. For example, the G20 has helped to coordinate responses to the global financial crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic, and other major economic challenges. The G20 has also made progress on a number of other important issues, such as climate change mitigation, sustainable development, and anti-corruption.
The G20 is a valuable forum for international cooperation on a wide range of important issues. The G20's convening power and influence can be used to address global challenges and promote sustainable economic growth and development for all.
